Land of Aprons
Part I From plot to plate Land of Aprons was created in honour of my dear Grand mother Oma Martha Malin (1922 - 2017).
From peeling to preserving she always wore an apron ...it was an act of care as the seasons turned. Her aprons danced on to Mum and me and has become a family tradition. I generated the footage in 2008 - it remained dormant like a seed until Mat Taylor helped me bring it together in 2018!
When I share my practice and film with youngsters in schools - they are intrigued. One young boy in year 2 asked if he could 'buy an apron seed in B&Q?' this lead to a wonderful discussion about imagination, care in planting, cooking, the tending and the waiting...

Part II Apronettes the wee off-spring of Land of Aprons started to play amongst the plants and flowers. Their curiosity was my curiosity - hundreds of tiny moments, their scale lends to mini mighty magical moments in nature birthing and passing all around me.

Part III the Apron tribe grows. In 2021 my film Land of Apron was part of an exhibition at Plas Bodfa' Wales. In the midst of Pandemic I continued to play with and develop the collection. The exhibition adapted to the fact we were all in insolation and became a series of on-line engagements.
