Dronefeild Junior School 'Come and Hold my Hand' - an ecology of friendships. Children across year groups experiencing vulnerabilities at times of transitions (especially break times) were asked what might help? Through a combination of creative processes exploring feeling states and friendships, they identified the need for a quiet area within a large, active and noisy playground. The pupils designed and made the screens and cushions for what they called their "nest + relaxation realm". With thanks to Mark Beeston who designed the flexible anchored posts. Eco friendly dyes were used for all textiles.
"It's been incredible to see the children's inner worlds unfold, all the emotional fluency this project has supported as well as design, motor skills and collaboration. What a transformation it's made to an underused area of our playground and the children own it all - so empowering!" R.H Staff
This project took place in 2019 as part of the Attachment and Relationship Aware Schools programme, Virtual School, Derbyshire County Council. Programme led by Lizzie Watt 2014 -2023.
